Distance Learning and Achievement Gap

Ensure student, educator and staff safety with COVID and develop creative ways to lessen the achievement/opportunity gap due to present challenges and prepare for future planning.

Safety

• Ensure there is a process in place for students, educators and staff to enter and move throughout the facilities.
• Ensure coverage for educators and staff if they need to be out of facility.
• Ensure support and resources regarding COVID.

Learning

• Ensure that students are not penalized for not having support or resources.
• Ensure educators and staff feel supported and heard during distance learning.
• Ensure educators and staff have the resources to virtually personalize and make their learning curriculum interactive.
• Ensure educators and administration stay connected with their students to ensure student success.

Promote Inclusion and Diversity Awareness

All students should be included and accepted for who they are. They should have access leading to learning, opportunities, and success. Students should feel supported, heard and encouraged to be active in their educational experience and goals.

• Start conversations in regards to current events: neurodiversity and ability diversity; religious, and socioeconomic differences; and racial, gender, and LGBTQ equality.
• Update current policies (522 and 535) and create new policies to improve equality and inclusion in students’ life circumstances, educational experiences, and goals.
• Conversations will be conducted in a restorative practices manner to promote fairness and integrity in the process.
• Conversations will include students, parents/guardians, faculty, administration, and the community.

Opportunities and Partnerships in the Community

Create a partnership with the community to support students in understanding and experiencing real work environments and relationships to determine what skills or knowledge they may need to acquire for secondary school or employment.

• Conduct conversations and educational sessions around options for post-high school learning or employment.
• Foster community learning opportunities with business owners, public service, and trade unions.
• Include a life skills course through the instructional curriculum policy along with on-the-job training or job shadowing.
